Toys and Community Support Needed for South Shore YMCA Toy Drive

Quincy, MA—Steps are in motion to collect as many toys as possible for children
who would simply go without this holiday season.

As part of the annual South Shore YMCA Holiday Assistance Program, staff and
volunteers are working hard to raise support for underprivileged South Shore
children and their families.

“Each year, we are proud to assemble toys, warm clothing, and other gift items to
help struggling families across the South Shore. Thanks to our partners, donors,
members and volunteers, we are able to make the holidays brighter for thousands of
children and families in the area.”, said South Shore YMCA President and CEO,
Paul Gorman.

Community partner Quirk Auto Dealers has joined forces by donating 72 bicycles
and will be collecting toys for the YMCA toy drive at all their retail locations until
December 22.

“If it weren’t for the South Shore YMCA, there some nights we wouldn’t have food to
eat. Being a single mom and not having the ability to provide for my children, makes
me feel like a failure. You don’t want to see your kid cry especially during the
holidays. Many times, the only gifts my children had were from the YMCA holiday
program. I really appreciate everything they have done for me”, said a tearful Katie,
a struggling South Shore single mother of three children.

The YMCA is seeking assistance from the community to collect all kinds of toys plus
other holiday gift items, such as clothing and pajamas, that are listed on their
website. https://ssymca.org/give/holiday-assistance/holiday-assistance-wish-list/

Donations to the South Shore YMCA Holiday Assistance Program can be made
online at, https://ssymca.org/give/holiday-assistance/. Toys will be collected at any
Quirk Auto Dealer retail location until December 22. For Quirk retail location

The Mazda Connected Services will allow you to find your vehicle if you happen to forget where you parked as well as monitor your vehicle’s vitals including oil levels, fuel levels, and service reminders.

2022 Chevrolet Traverse

It combines midsize convenience with third-row seating so it will accommodate your growing family. The Driver Mode Selector is designed to conquer the road ahead with options that will provide the best performance in the snow, off-road when towing/hauling, and AWD when conditions call for additional traction. The Chevrolet Traverse rounds out our list by allowing 5,000 lbs of towing capacity to bring along added fun for those weekend getaways. Fall Driving Tips

It’s that time of year again where the leaves are bursting with color and attracting people from all over. Leaf peeping is beautiful and relaxing, but it is still important to pay attention to the road and potential hazards. We can enjoy all the vibrant roadside colors while remaining safe. Let’s take a look at a few fall driving tips to ensure you have the best experience possible while on the road.

Caution Wet Leaves

Pay extra attention to the road and obstructions that may exist. Leaves will be falling and blowing all around, so make sure you are aware of the road ahead. Leaves that coat the road can become dangerous especially when wet. When wet they can be just as dangerous as ice causing poor stopping power and maneuverability. In addition to fewer leaves providing slippery roads, they may also cause poor visibility of road markings. Use your discretion when you notice leaves are abundant because they may cover up painted lines, manhole covers, potholes, and other hazards that may damage your vehicle.

Too Much Sun

Keep an extra pair of sunglasses in the car. During the fall months, the sun is rising and setting at different times. This causes more glare on your daily commute that is not only annoying but could prove to be hazardous. Make use of those sunglasses and don’t forget your sun visor will greatly help. Less daylight means that you will be using your lights more often. Make sure all functions and bulbs are working properly to stay safe on the roadways.

Check Your Defroster

Fall is that in-between time of the year where it is warm during the day and the temperature falls at night. As fall progresses there may even be a slight frost at night. Make sure your defroster is working properly and that you have a sufficient means of removing the frost so you can safely drive. You don’t want to be that person looking through a small hole that you managed to defrost as you drive down the road. Also, make sure to get a windshield washer fluid that contains a defrosting agent. It will help greatly and save you a couple of steps.

Deer Crossing

One of the most important changes in the fall months is the increase of deer activity. As we know deer can cause a lot of damage to our vehicles so it is important to be extra cautious as it is the breeding season for deer and they will be highly active. Deer are less cautious during the breeding season and take more chances crossing roadways. Keep an eye out for deer all day but mostly during sunrise and sunset hours.
